Dr. Charles Zhao
Dr. Charles Zhao is a theoretical physicist. He has been teaching Physics and Physics-based engineering classes since 1982, both in the United States and in China. In China, while teaching Physics as an associate professor at Hebei Normal University and being awarded for his invention of a new and effective teaching method, he served as a member of college entrance examination committee for Hebei Province. After getting his Ph. D in Theoretical Physics in the United States in 2000, he became a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Research Council. Since 2002, he worked for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of North Carolina State University and then the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, doing research and teaching “Semiconductor Physics ” and “Advanced Design Theory of Nanometer Devices”. His major contribution to the scientific community is the “Resonant Tunneling Theory of a Double Barrier Quantum Well System”. He hold one US patent on design of resonant tunneling diodes. Dr. Zhao was the keynote speaker for the “Workshop on Mathematical and Numerical Modeling of the Nanocscale Devices” at Peking University, China in June of 2005. He also chaired the special section on “Nano-electronics Engineering and Modeling” of DCDIS 4th International Conference on Engineering Applications and Computational Algorithms in Canada in July of 2005. He was the journal editor of “Wireless Engineering and Technology” from 2011 to 2013. He was also the member of technical program committee of IEEE WiCOM2012, Shanghai, China, 2012. Dr. Zhao has served as a referee for Applied Physics Letters, Physica B, Physica E, Physics Letter A, Solid State Electronics, and Materials Research. He has published more than 70 research papers in peer refereed journals and conference proceedings.
While doing research and teaching at US colleges, Dr. Zhao also tutored high school students on Physics, Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus in his spare time in the past 16 years. Dr. Zhao emphasized understanding to the basic concepts and grasping the basic methods and skills for problem-solving of the related subjects in his classes. This teaching method is proved to be very effective. All his students have gotten 5 credits on AP Physics and AP Calculus Tests. Most of his students got 800 on SAT Physics and Math Subject Tests. Some students even improved their scores for more than 300 points on the Subject Tests. Many his students have been admitted to the most selective universities in the country, such as Harvard University, Princeton University, Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, etc.
Dr. Zhao is the author of the books listed below.
Lecture Notes on Test Topics: SAT MATH----- Concepts, Methods, and Skills for a Higher Score
The central goal of this book aims at boosting the score of the Math section of the students who plan to take the SAT. This book is the only one in the market that helps students by using fundamental principle of learning in acing the SAT Math Test. Special teaching techniques, such as effective review of the fundamental concepts, study of SAT Math test topics, and training in skills of problem solving, are composed of the featured sections in each lecture of the book. The specific features of the book are summarized below.
Read More10 SAT Subject Practice Tests: Physics
Doing practice tests is one of the most effective study techniques for acing the SAT Physics Subject Test. Through doing a practice test, the students can have a better long-term retention of knowledge, identify gaps and weakness in knowledge for taking the subject test, effectively improve learning, and efficiently manage the time in the real test. To this connection, this book provides you with 10 realistic SAT Physics Subject practice tests. The study of the tests in this book is one of the effective ways that leads you to the success. The specific features of the book are shown below. Read MoreLecture Notes on Test Topics: SAT Physics Subject Test----- Concepts, Methods, and Skills for a Higher Score
